THETA® clinching is an innovative development of the conventional clinching process. The targeted heating of the material combination using a laser before the actual clinching process significantly increases the formability of materials. This allows a reliable mechanical connection even with materials that are difficult or impossible to clinch under normal conditions - including high strength (AHSS) and ultra-high (UHSS) strength steels as well as low-ductility die-cast aluminum alloys and aluminum sheets.

Clinching with laser support
Thanks to the combination of thermal pre-treatment and proven clinching technology, THETA® opens new fields of application in modern lightweight design, particularly in the automotive industry.

Is THETA® clinching suitable for your application?
Your task:
Do you need to join high strength and ultra-high strength steels and low ductility aluminum alloys? Due to their low formability, conventional processes quickly reach their limits here.
Our solution:
The targeted use of lasers immediately before clinching increases the local ductility of the material. This means that even critical materials can be joined reliably for the first time without pre-punching or cutting.
The way:
In the THETA® process, clinching takes place immediately after thermal pre-treatment. Conventional processes such as clinching with a cutting component harbors risks: reduced fatigue strength due to notching, susceptibility to corrosion at cut edges and a non-homogeneous joint quality. THETA® eliminates these disadvantages - efficiently, precisely and reliably.
