FAQs about the TOX^® ElectricDrive

TOX^® ElectricDrive Core is an integrated servo press system comprising TOX^® ElectricPowerDrive, TOX^® PowerModule Core, TOX^® EdgeUnit, and TOX^® software. Control, process logic, visualization, process monitoring, and quality data acquisition are combined in a single system architecture.

The system offers the EQe-K, EXe-K, EXe-F, and EXe-L series. ElectricDrive Core thus covers a wide range of applications, from cost-effective standard processes to specialized and laboratory applications with high-speed requirements or very high pressing forces.

The standard force range extends from 0.02 kN to 1000 kN. The specific selection depends on the process force, stroke, dynamics, tool mass, and installation space.
Smaller and larger force ranges can also be accommodated using external sensors.

The EQe-K uses a ball screw. The EXe-K, EXe-F, and EXe-L use a planetary roller screw. This is relevant for design because roller screws offer advantages in terms of high load density, rigidity, and service life.

The system is designed for typical joining and pressing processes, including press-fitting, clinching, riveting, punching, drilling, assembly, embossing, marking, clamping, and compaction. Tensioning applications can also be performed using the system.

Force is generally measured using several strain gauge force sensors integrated into the joining module rather than being derived indirectly from the motor current. In addition, the internal arrangement of the sensors compensates for transverse forces acting on the joining module.

Yes. The TOX^® EdgeUnit provides 2 digital inputs, 2 digital outputs, 2 analog inputs, 1 encoder input, and an additional strain gauge input. The measured values from connected sensors can be defined as target values in the process and used to control the process.

The path repeatability is 0.01 mm regardless of the model. Depending on the series, the system accuracy of the force measurement is typically between <1% and <0.5% of the rated force.

Different dynamic ranges are available depending on the series. The EXe-F is designed for high-speed applications up to 800 mm/s, while the EXe-L is optimized for high forces up to 1000 kN at lower speeds.

In addition to the standard recording of force, displacement, and time, the freely definable channels allow any type of internally or externally recorded measurement variable to be not only recorded but also monitored during the process. Thanks to the windowing technique with envelope curve monitoring, specific quality characteristics can be defined.

For PLC and robot connectivity, Profinet, EtherCAT, and EtherNet/IP are available. The interface is fieldbus-neutral and designed for integration into existing automation environments.

Quality data can be provided in formats such as XML, CSV, JSON, or PDF and stored either locally or on an externally connected server. Data can also be transmitted via OPC UA or MQTT.

The standard version includes STO (Safe Torque Off) via safe inputs and SS1-t in accordance with EN 61800-5-2. Optional features include communication via safety bus (PROFIsafe, FSoE) and advanced safety functions such as SOS or SLS. Overall responsibility for machine safety remains with the machine manufacturer.

Yes. Several extra-short, extra-narrow, IP65-rated, and cleanroom versions are already available as standard, and customized designs are also possible. This allows the system to be used even in compact or particularly sensitive production environments.

No. Technically speaking, it is low-maintenance, not maintenance-free. In addition to periodic lubrication, regular verification of force accuracy is recommended to ensure the system's longevity.

EXe-L Servo Press

The fixed stop of the EXe-L electromechanical press drive is specified in all technical documentation (product data sheets, CAD models, installation drawings).

What do you need to keep in mind?

• During design, care must be taken to ensure that the drive can move from the fixed stop to the 0 position after referencing (fixed stop +3 mm).

• Lubrication of the drive via the external grease nipple is only possible in the 0 position and in the fixed stop position. Additionally, lubrication can be performed via the two internal lubrication points if necessary.

• The entire nominal stroke of the actuator can be utilized from the 0 position.
