JOINING WITH ELEMENTS

Your task, our solution

Securely join sheet metals, plastic plates or other flat materials with each other. Our solution: Semi-hollow punch riveting, solid punch riveting and ClinchRivet.

The process: We show you which riveting procedure is ideal for your application and your requirements. The core piece is always the connecting element. Where it gets individual is in selecting the appropriate technology.

The proven principle to permanently join two punched sheet metals with a cylindrical pin in one go has barely changed. What has developed further is the procedures, the joining elements used and the machines for placing the rivets. A drill, a punch or the semi-hollow punch rivet cuts the hole, handheld tongs, robot tongs or machine tongs fix the rivet.

Semi-hollow punch rivet – the universal one

The semi-hollow punch rivet cuts through without producing any waste. It merely submerges into the lower joining material and becomes deformed. The result is a joint which guarantees the best force transmission during tensile load. Semi-hollow punch rivets can be placed quickly and are universal. They join different material pairs – from lightweight materials such as aluminum, magnesium or plastic to ultra-high-strength steels.

TOX® offers a wide variety of systems for processing semi-hollow punch rivets.

Solid punch rivet – the hybrid connector

The name of the solid punch rivet gives away its capabilities: First of all, it cuts through all joining materials and then fills the cavity that was created. It presses the punched piece out of the joint and becomes deformed whilst also deforming the joint. This creates a stable connection – of up to three layers of different materials.

The procedure is of great importance, above all for lightweight constructions as well as the connection of hybrid parts and assemblies.

Solid punch riveting:

  • Joins even high-strength, non-ductile materials – provided they are at the top

  • Joins more than three layers of sheet metal

  • Creates almost flush joints on both sides

We construct the rivet feeds, tong and tool holding fixtures universally. This enables solid punch rivets with

  • diameters of 4.0 mm and lengths between 3.3 and 8.1 mm as well as

  • diameters of 5.0 mm and lengths between 3.9 and 9.0 mm.

These can be flexibly processed with our systems by the users.

TOX® offers a wide variety of systems for processing solid punch rivets.

ClinchRivet®– the no-punch one

The patented ClinchRivet® keeps the sheet metals intact – as with the TOX® Round Joint, no holes are needed. Instead, the sheet metals are permanently joined by means of a symmetrical cylinder rivet in one pulling-pressing process. An important auxiliary tool here is a die, which lends the ClinchRivet its form. The pressed in cylinder rivet makes the connection extra secure, even with thin sheet metals.

This versatile joining method is suitable for example for applications in the crash zones of passenger cars as well as for thin sheet metals.

No-punch riveting procedures:

  • Are easy in their application

  • Create electrically conductive connections

  • Are demonstrably secure

  • Keep the material to be joined intact
