Process sequence: The fastening section of the functional element passes through an existing hole in the component. An interlock is formed by forming the rivet section of the functional element.

Advantages: The joint is formed by forming the functional element alone. This allows joints to be made with support components that are difficult or impossible to form. Excellent static and dynamic load-bearing capacities can be achieved.

Process sequence: The fastening section of the functional element passes through an existing hole in the component. By forming the component material, it is molded onto the fastening section of the functional element, thus creating an interlock.

Advantages: Excellent static and dynamic load-bearing capacities can be achieved.

Types: Clinch rivet nut, clinch rivet stud, special clinch rivet element

Process sequence: The fastening section of the functional element is formed into the component. Combined expansion (spreading) of the rivet base and targeted material flow of the component material generates an interlock together with a partially friction-based joint.

Advantages: As the joint is formed without cutting through the component, the clinch rivet joining technology is characterized by ideal tightness qualities.

Hole preparation: Not required

Types: Self-piercing rivet nut, self-piercing rivet stud, special self-piercing rivet element, self-piercing press nut, special self-piercing press element

Process sequence: Self-piercing elements are characterized by the fact that the hole required for the joint is created during the joining process by punching. The generated slug can remain in the joint or is removed by the processing system. The subsequent forming of the joint takes place by forming an undercut. The element can be implemented as pressing element or as riveting element.

Advantages: As no locating hole is required for the joining process, self-piercing functional elements allow economical and flexible overall processes.
